Tales in Parts

Top 3 fiction in parts this week

While not an ideal site for fiction, Medium nonetheless carries many authors who are very talented in fiction, if one knows but where to look. For my first offering to Best of Three, I’d like to bring attention to three stories I’ve read recently that have caught my eye and heart and I’d recommend to anyone with a love of reading.

Everywhere, Nowhere by Edd Jennings

A deftly woven tale of might-have-beens and action, chances come late and the breath of real love. I can’t recommend Mr. Jennings work too highly, not just for his riveting fiction but for the superb essays of a life lived.

The Rape of Tallahatchie by Starkey

Despite being excerpts from his novels, these stories, so rich in voice and detail, read compellingly on their own — though they will make you want to read more. There is a wealth of wonderful reading in Starkey’s profile here on Medium.

The Charge of El Phantasma by Benjamin Hirsch

New(ish) to Medium, Benjamin Hirsch has written a tale that might call to anyone who loved the adventures of Don Diego de la Vega and has done so beautifully. A pleasure to read! I’m looking forward to seeing more fiction here from him.

I’ve been remiss in not keeping up with recommendations in the last year, here’s hoping this is the start of a change for that.
