Haruki Murakami is one of my favourite writers. And Sputnik Sweetheart is one of my favourite books.

Murakami is a master of conveying loneliness and the absurdity of human existence. He loves cats, ears, and dancing on the line between the magical and the realistic.

Sputnik Sweetheart is a story told by lonely elementary school teacher. He is desperately in love with his best friend, Sumire, a woman who is in love with another woman, Miu. Soon after they meet, Sumire starts working for Miu. They go on a business trip that ends with a short vacation on a Greek island. After four days, Sumire disappears…
