Of Writing and Yet More Snow

On Monday, February 12, 1979, I reported the following:

We certainly had a lot of snow that year.

What I seriously lacked in my childhood was role models. I wanted to be a writer but I had no idea how to go about it. I only knew there was good writing, that got published, and mine; the concept that it involves practice and hard work was still foreign to me.

As much as teens may not want to admit it, they need mentors and role models. They need people in their lives doing amazing things. That then provides a reference point. They can point toward them and think, “I want to be like that one day. I even believe that I can!”
