Alternation

One way energy flows

is from light to darkness

or darkness to light as

best exemplified by the 24 hour

rotation cycle of the earth.

We’re not quite on a roasting spit

(or maybe we are)

but the glare of day often overstays

its welcome and the night

is speckled with tiny cities

on hills that won’t be hid

no matter how far

and comes to represent

distance, lights, not knowing,

and the God given power to name

the nameless.

In alternation, in knowing and

not knowing, named and

nameless, goes the flow.
