What You Need To Know About Cold Calling

Every good salesperson has started off with cold calling. It helps practice perfecting your sales pitch and learn how to deal with rejection. It also helps you gain real-time feedback from callers. Here is what you need to know starting out.

Knowledge Is Power

You can learn so much in just one single call with someone. During sales prospecting, you can find out everything you need to know like the troubles they're facing, what other suppliers are being used, and so much more. Using this information to your advantage will help you get a step ahead. Understanding the needs of your clients will help adapt your product.

Plan Ahead

Plan out your call times. Most people are busy from 9 to 5 because of work, they do not have time to be answering phone calls from random numbers. It is better to call earlier in the morning or later at night. Whenever is possible, avoid Mondays because people are just starting their week also avoid Fridays because they are preparing for the weekend and getting out of work mode. The middle of the week is usually most effective because they have generally dealt with most of their issues and are less likely to think the call is a distraction.

Preparation Is Key

Always be prepared. Know the who, what, when, and why. Do your research, knowing who you are talking to will help you have a better understanding of your prospects' needs. Cold calling is no longer so cold… With social media, it has become much easier to learn about a person. Using platforms like LinkedIn can tell you everything you need to know about a person before actually talking to them. Cold calls provide immediate feedback and they are much harder to ignore than emails. Having a script or outline to ensure the conversation is on track is helpful.

Be Persistent

Track Your Progress

Make sure you are tracking your cold calls to see how you are doing. Consistently look at what you need to improve to be making those connections. Be patient, no one is going to have a 100% success rate.
