Entrepreneurial but Addicted!

You have heard or read about addiction to drugs/sex/gambling/internet and lots of other common addictions professionals talk about, but little has been intently said or discussed on "Entrepreneurial Addiction".

Entrepreneurial Addiction like any other addiction has adverse effects that are dangerous not only to the addicted but also affect friends of the addicted, hence, this addiction has severe social consequences.

Entrepreneurial Addiction is the excessive or compulsive engagement in entrepreneurial activities that results in a variety of social, emotional, and/or physiological problems and that despite the development of these problems, the entrepreneur is unable to resist the compulsion to engage in entrepreneurial activities."

Yes, it is necessary for you to work hard. Working hard is essential for your mental health and total wellbeing, but there's a difference between being passionate about work and being obsessed with work. The latter only "drains" you and your relationships.

You should know when to say no to that impulse and rather make time with your family or just rest or just read/learn.

A local (Nigerian) adage says "work doesn't kill, it's poverty that does", although the wisdom and message in this adage are clearly understood - poverty (an effect of laziness) kills, albeit, it should be sounded loudly that "obsession with work" kills, and affects relationships.

Due to the uncertain nature of entrepreneurial activities - output is usually subject to change, and sometimes not as desired, as several variables are involved, entrepreneurial addiction often results in mood swings that can affect personal health as well as relationships with people at work and home.

Work hard, but don’t become an addict!
